First Draft Trailer
First Draft Media Trailer from Amy Walmsley on Vimeo.
This is our first time at attempting to make a trailer for a horror film. We started by filming using a camera and a tripod. Our location was a small area surrounded in trees. We thought that this would look quite scary as their appears to be no escape. Also it was dark and enclosed.
We asked our actress to run around this forest like area looking to get more violent as the trailer progresses. At the start she would look happy running around whilst skipping and having fun but then she suddenly slows down a bit and starts to look more confused and scared. Finally as it is coming to a climax she would scream into the camera.
As it was our first draft we decided to make the costume simple and use no make up to show the girl is mental and does not care about her appearance. Her hair was long and flowing because as the trailer starts she appears to be happy so we wanted her hair to be swaying so it symbolises the girls freedom.
When we were editing our first attempt we decided to put a olden time effect on top of the footage. We have chosen to do this as we want the film to be set in the past and also the black and white will make it appear more spooky like horror films already made.
We decided not to use speech in the trailer as text over the top of the film would make it more unique and it would explain the footage without the need to hear the girl speaking. For the text over the film we made the background white and the text a dark purple. This makes it more chilling as we have seen in other horror film trailers the way the text comes across the film looks even more scary.
We have placed the title of the film at the end of the trailer so it will be the last thing people will remember about it and also if we put the title of the film at the start it may give away some of the mystery's happening in the film.
We did not use any sound effects over the top of the trailer as we just wanted the sound of the girl playing and then turing into roars at the end. This shows more of a realistic sound in the film which will make it seem even more horroric as you will think it is real.
We added the words 'What would you do if everything you knew' right at the start of the trailer and then we added nearer the middle of the trailer the words 'was a lie'. This made the audience understand some of what is happening to the girl as it shows that she is very confused and is angry.
As the woman is running around in a forest turning angry as the trailer goes on. This gives the trailer more suspense and as the trailer progresses it gets faster so the audience will become more scared and feel more apprehensive.
