First time Editing

After filming we went to the media suite where we began editing our video clips for our trailer. To begin we went on the software i movie to begin to edit some practice clips. We looked at how to make the clip shorter and how to cut our bits that we didnt like. We tried to make two different clips fit together to make one clip so that it would look like a continuous film clip not like two completly separate clips.
Whilst on i movie we were able to look at different effects you can have aswell as just your movie footage. We learnt how to put transitions in through the clip and we were also able to put sound over the top of the clip.

After we had done some practice editing, we looked at all the clips we had took so far of our horror film and we decided which ones we would use and what we could do to them on the editing softwware to make them more scary. We decided to use the clip of the two girls on the swings as a flashback and we would make this black and white. We then would have the scene where the girl is being murdered which we will have very scary music over the top which creates alot of tension. We do have another flashback of the girls playing in the fields but this was a bit too long so we will shorten it to make it a very quick flashback.

Filming

On Saturday 15th October my team and I went to go and film for the first time. We decided on filming 4 scenes. Our first is a flash back of the girl and the sister playing as children on the swings. They were holding hands and swinging so that they would appear to look more like children. Our second scene was also a flash back of both of the girls playing in a field of flowers. This shows them of the same age as before to show that it was a day where the girls were playing out in the park as children. Our next scene is of the girl becoming the evil girl. Later on in the trailer before these flashbacks we will show how the girl turns from herself to the girl lady and this is the scene we shot on Saturday. Our final scene is a last flash back of the sister being murdered.

In our trailer we have decided to show flashbacks which will give some idea of what happened to the girl before she turned into the mental patient and the murderer. Our main flashbacks shows the girls as children playing in the park. I filmed these two scenes as my other group members were playing the roles of the characters. I shot the girls from behind whilst they were swinging as we decided that it would give a bit more of a mystery within the flashbacks. But we did show the girls faces as we wanted to the audience to be able to see who they were within the trailer. We also decided that a two shot would be best as it is two young girls so as we wanted to show them both equally we thought a two shot would be the best way to do this.

When i filmed the sister being murdered we did lots of practice films so that we would get it to look exactly how we wanted it to. In the end we decided we wanted to show the girl just about the be murdered but not the girl dead so that the audience would be able to guess what happened without actually seeing it. We think that this we would be able to this and it would look good as if we tried to show the girl being murdered it may look amateur and unrealistic. I filmed the girl walking up behind the sister and i stopped the film just after she raised the crow bar to the girls head. The sister is just happily playing on the swing by herself not knowing there is someone standing behind her.

We also filmed a 2 second clip of the evil lady dragging the crow bar along the bridge which will lead to the park and then the swing where the murder will take place. We think that this would show the audience that the girl has now changed and she has gone to get a crow bar to begin killing. It also adds a bit of tension as at this point you will not know where the girl is going and why she is carrying a crow bar.

Props and Costume

Before we started filming we needed to discuss props and have a firm decision on the costume. For the props we decided to use for the murder weapon a crow bar. This is because it is something which is dangerous yet something accessible as well. Also we wanted to use a weapon which not every movie uses as most film trailers i have seen may use a gun or a knife for weapon so a crow bar would be less predictable.

For the costume we decided the evil lady would be wearing a black dress with a broach which gives it an added touch which gives the character more of a personality. She is also wearing black high heeled shoes as she is also playing a child as well in the film we are trying to make the evil lady look older.

The young girls will be wearing girly children's clothing. The sister will wear a dress with long socks and the other girl will be wearing a dress which is pink and has a floral patten on. They will both wear flat shoes and have no fancy jewelery or accessories on.

Another prop we have considered later on in our trailer will be a wanted poster of our main character. As she will escape from the mental home we thought it would be a good idea to show a close up of a wanted poster for this girl.

To make our wanted poster we looked for inspiration and we found a perfect one which we wanted to model our poster on. It is for the film 'Harry Potter'. We have tried to use some of the same fonts, colours and image placement to make a good wanted poster.

My Magazine Front Cover

Here i have started work on my Magazine Front Cover. I have started with the name 'Screen Stars' as we have not decided just when i started this on what name we would use.

Here i have used blending options in Adobe Photoshop to make the name 'Screen Stars' have a shadow and have a pink outline. I have chosen the colours pink and purple as i want this magazine to look like a film magazine looking at every genre as i didnt want the magazine to look to much like horror. 

The image i have used is of our main actress dressed as the evil character in our trailer. I did this so people would be able to tell which film she is from. I also used this image as she looks quite scary and cunning which shows off her character personality and show that it is supposed to be a horror genre.

Magazine name, Film name and Tagline

As for our trailer we need to decide as a group on our magazine name, our film name and a tagline. These are things that will make our trailer look more realistic and will make our film look professional.

As a group we tried to come up with a film name a member of my team came up with 'Who Am I?'. We all liked this title name as it was short, catchy and suits our horror based film. It is called this as the woman in the film is on a quest to find some one who in the end we will show is actually herself. As she is trying to find the killer of her sister she discovers along the way that due to her mental state she is the one who murdered her sister and that her alter ego has done this. So by calling the film 'Who Am I?' it shows that mental patients lose minds which we believe to be scary.

The magazine name had to be catchy and had to be a realistic magazine name. A group member came up with a list of many different names and we managed to pick one. We picked the name 'The Film Spy' as this is a clever name as it shows a magazine looking on at all the different films giving the readers the insider gossip on all the different films around.

For the tagline it was difficult for us to come up with a short and snappy line. We came up with a few different lines, these were as follows:
- Darkness lies within her mind, - She is lost within her mind, -She cant escape... HERSELF, -Darkness lies within her soul.

I have decided for my poster tagline i would use 'Darkness lies within her soul'. I have picked this as i think it sounds like a typical horror film tagline. It also gives some of the films storyline away as from just looking at the tagline you can see that there will be a woman who is evil and she is going to be evil throughout.

Story Board

We have discussed each section of the trailer at this point and have decided a story board will be the best way of showing what happens in our trailer second by second. We will write in the storyboard all the different shots/angles and sound effects we are going to use at each point.

Magazine Front Cover and Poster images x2

For our next photoshoot we have used the other personality as our front cover picture. She will be wearing a white dress/ gown and she will be wearing simple makeup with straightened hair. We want to make dramatic differences between both of the personalities but as it is the same actress we have used to mise en scene in particular the costume and the make up to show the audience that she has two different personalities.
